FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The final flag has been pulled on a remarkable first official season of WIAA girls flag football.

Three high schools — Skyline (4A), Lincoln of Tacoma (3A) and Lynden (2A/1A) — were crowned state champions on a crisp, clear Saturday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Those gold-ball trophies will be the shiniest treasures coaches and players will see from here on out in any WIAA sport. They were just shipped out new weeks ago from New York.

And their school names will be the first engraved on the side of those trophies.
