Brett Jay certainly knows the significance of a joyous Saturday around Moses Lake.

First, the seventh-seeded Mavericks survived a Class 4A first-round nailbiter over No. 10 seed Bothell, 17-14, at Lions Field to advance to another week of action.

Secondly, it was not only the program’s first state-playoff victory since 2015 — it was the 4A CBBN’s first win during that time span as well.

But, most importantly, it was a moment the community could heartily celebrate in the wake of what transpired nearly 18 months ago — a double-levy failure that caused a multi-million-dollar shortfall within the Moses Lake School District, threatening the status of all extra-curricular activities, including football.
