Erick Judd was planning for an off year.

Judd had just watched Carter Kuchenbuch finish up one of the most storied careers in Okanogan High School football history, leading the school to back-to-back WIAA Class 2B championships at quarterback before graduating on to Boise State University.

There was a younger Kuchenbuch coming up — Colson — but he had lost out on the starting quarterback job in the summer to Wesley Allen, a senior who was switching over from wingback.

Oh, but how fate can intervene.
