MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Good thing Brett Jay still has willing coaching friends in the greater Columbian Basin and Tri-Cities areas to lean on.

Their expertise has helped the Moses Lake Mavericks evolve from a floundering program to the 4A CBBN’s top dog — and potentially a team that can make some noise in the upcoming WIAA playoffs.

Yes, Jay’s son, Brady, is the headliner as the state’s top passer who is on pace to set single-season records.

But, on the other side of the ball, Brett Jay chose to take a couple calculated risks schematically to improve production.
