TACOMA, Wash. — In a make-the-most-of-it moment, after Oliviyah Edwards returned to the Lincoln High School girls basketball program following a two-year hiatus, she proclaimed the Abes would make the WIAA playoffs.

A few folks snickered. Many shook their heads in disbelief.

Had she seen the untidy, undermanned squad to which she was returning?

In the end, it didn’t matter. Edwards’ word came true.
