Graham-Kapowsin slams door on frantic O'Dea fourth-quarter comeback
Sophomore AJ Tuivaiave leads No. 6 4A Eagles 80 yards for winning score in final two minutes of 40-38 win over reigning 3A champion and No. 1 O'Dea
SPANAWAY, Wash. — Sixth-ranked Class 4A Graham-Kapowsin made a loud early-season statement by knocking off reigning 3A champion and No. 1 O’Dea — and longtime Irish coach Monte Kohler is going to have to wait at least one more week to hold the all-time coaching wins record by himself.
Sophomore A.J. Tuivaiave capped his team’s final-minute, 80-yard drive with his 1-yard touchdown plunge with 35.8 seconds remaining, and the Eagles turned away O’Dea’s frantic fourth-quarter comeback with a 40-38 win Friday night at Art Crate Field.
