John Willey began with an unfavorable view of football.

He played in junior leagues in California and immediately decided not to pursue it much further.

“I did not want to play in high school,” Willey said.

What Willey didn’t expect to happen was he’d eventually miss the sport. And even though he never tried out for the high school team at Saint Francis High School, as soon as he turned 18 and moved northbound to Seattle, he wanted to volunteer as a coach.
