Redemption round? Sumner, Anacortes earn chances to avenge earlier drubbings in WIAA semifinals
Defending 4A champion Spartans meet No. 1 Puyallup on same field as earlier blowout loss, while two-time defending 2A champion Seahawks take on No. 1 Archbishop Murphy in Everett
SUMNER and ORTING, Wash. — Keith Ross knows second chances are hard to come by.
But he and the reigning Class 4A champion Sumner Spartans get one next week.
In fact, there are two state-semifinal rematches on tap for defending WIAA champions who suffered blowout losses during the regular season — Sumner’s 58-22 defeat to eventual 4A SPSL champion Puyallup in Week 5, and two-time Class 2A champion Anacortes’ 43-7 loss to Archbishop Murphy, which captured the 2A Northwest Conference crown.
“I told our kids, ‘You don’t get a lot of redos in life,’” Ross said, “and we get a redo. So we are super excited.”
