SEATTLE — In an odd and unconventional twist in the on-again, off-again coaching saga of popular community icon Brandon Roy at Garfield High School, a mid-week, early-afternoon press conference was called Thursday.

New Seattle Public Schools superintendent Ben Shuldiner attended. So did Garfield principal Dr. Tarance Hart and school athletic director Chris Englund. And, of course, Roy was also present.

A rehiring? Reinstatement? Reintroduction? All of them seemed to fit the purpose of Thursday as, once again, Roy, 41, was tabbed to lead the Bulldogs’ boys basketball program starting in 2026-27.
