TACOMA, Wash. — Mount Rainier High School football coach Quincy Carter knows class-of-2027 dual-sport prospect Mason Emil has next-level talent.

But there was a time after the Rams’ season last fall when Carter had to challenge the teenager’s next-step commitment to the sport.
