The second full week of the high school basketball season in Washington featured big individual playmaking and defensive performances around the state.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week voting for games played the week of Dec. 8-13:
Jacey Boesel, Deer Park girls basketball: Recorded a triple-double in win over University (19 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals), and had 29 points and 18 rebounds in a nonleague victory over Idaho powerhouse Coeur d’Alene.
Doni Burkett, Todd Beamer boys basketball: Against his former school, scored a game-high 35 points — 24 coming in the second half — as the Titans defeated Federal Way in 3A NPSL action. Also had six assists and made six 3-pointers.
Cooper Fallon, Adna boys basketball: In the season opener, the forward posted a 20-20 game — 23 points and 24 rebounds — in a 2B Central win over Onalaska. Also had five blocked shots.
Dawson Hintz, Lynden Christian boys basketball: In the team’s showdown against reigning 1B champion Lummi Nation, Hintz tallied a game-high 29 points, scoring eight of the team’s final 10 points in a home victory. Also had 24 in a win over Mount Vernon.
Finley Parcher, Lynden girls basketball: All-state guard was unstoppable for two-time defending 2A girls champions in three games last week (averaged 25.9 points), including a season-high 32 points on 12-of-15 shooting in a road win over 4A Tahoma.
Deidra Phillips and Herbie Wright, Prosser girls basketball: Each scored her career 1,000th point in the same game in a 2A CWAC opening win over Ephrata. Wright, a junior, scored a game-high 24 points while Phillips, a senior, added 15 points.
Michael Rangel-Smathers, Marysville-Pilchuck boys basketball: Sophomore guard scored a career-high 36 points, and the Tomahawks grabbed a home 3A Wesco win over Marysville Getchell.
Tyran Stokes, Rainier Beach boys basketball: Top 2026 recruit had a double-double with 27 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and two blocks in home-opening win over Bishop Blanchet, and 28 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks in road win at O’Dea.
Jazzy Wilkerson, Woodinville girls basketball: Idaho State signee capped big comeback against Archbishop Murphy with two 3-pointers at the end of the regulation as part of her 20 points in an OT win. Also had a season-high 26 points in KingCo win over Issaquah.
Alana Zavala, Mabton girls basketball: Broke two school scoring records, including the single-game mark when she poured in 42 points in a loss to Cle Elum-Roslyn. She also moved past Gayla Boast (1,733 career points in 1982) for No. 1 in career scoring.
