Wright posted a pair of 33-point scoring games in 2A CWAC wins over rival Ellensburg and East Valley of Yakima to move to No. 4 in school’s all-time scoring list.

Original post, Jan. 26: The eighth full week of the high school basketball season in Washington featured big individual playmaking and defensive performances around the state.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week voting for winter-holiday games played the week of Jan. 19-24:
Pierce Bierlink, Quincy boys basketball: A few days after becoming a career 2,000-point scorer, the playmaking all-league guard poured in a game-high 29 points in a 2A CWAC victory over Ephrata.
Noland Brady, Onalaska boys basketball: Sophomore guard erupted for a season-high 35 points — 25 coming in the second half — as the Loggers defeated Raymond-South Bend in a 2B Central game.
Austin Collins, Annie Wright boys basketball: Nearly engineered a road upset over ranked 4A Camas with a season-high 34 points on 13-of-23 shooting as the reigning 1A champions lost in overtime. Had 20 points in MLK Day loss to Prairie.
Shayla Cordis, North Thurston girls basketball: Posted back-to-back 30-point scoring games last week with 31 points in a 3A PSL win over Bellarmine Prep, and 36 points (on 16-of-23 shooting) in a victory over Peninsula.
Makenzie Fager, Shadle Park girls basketball: Senior guard tallied a season-high 33 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Highlanders solidified their postseason chances with a 3A GSL road victory at Mount Spokane.
Brooklynn Haywood, Union girls basketball: Upped her record-pursuing scoring pace with 42 points in an MLK Day win over Bellarmine Prep, 32 points in a 4A GSHL win over Camas and a career-high 54 points on 19-of-31 shooting in a win over Evergreen.
Baylee Maldonado, Chiawana girls basketball: Mid-Columbia Conference’s top scorer had a game-high 22 points and a program-record 13 assists in the Riverhawks’ league victory over Kennewick to remain undefeated.
Giovanni Moimoi, Kentridge boys basketball: Senior forward scored a game-high 27 points, 10 coming in the fourth quarter as the Chargers upended then-No. 2 Auburn to move into a tie for first place in the 4A NPSL.
Malakai Weimer, Skyview boys basketball: With 17 points against Camas, the senior became school’s all-time leading scorer (1,269 points). Added a season-high 37 points and 14 rebounds in an early 4A GSHL win over Battle Ground.
Herbie Wright, Prosser girls basketball: Junior posted a pair of 33-point scoring games in 2A CWAC wins over rival Ellensburg and East Valley of Yakima to move to No. 4 in school’s all-time scoring list.
