The 12th full week of the high school basketball season in Washington featured big individual playmaking and defensive performances around the state.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week voting for winter-holiday games played the week of Feb. 16-21:
Jalen Davis, Bremerton boys basketball: All-state guard led defending 2A champions to District 3 championship with 29 points in title-game victory over Bainbridge. Had 27 points and 10 assists in semifinals.
Oliviyah Edwards, Lincoln of Tacoma girls basketball: Lifted Abes to improbable 3A state playoff berth by collecting 27 points and 18 rebounds in district loser-out game against Bellarmine Prep. Had 16 points in second half of win.
Aylen Garnett, Touchet boys basketball: Catalyst in school clinching first WIAA playoff berth with 35 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals in 1B district crossover win over Selkirk.
Brooklynn Haywood, Union girls basketball: Was the star of the 4A District 3/4 tournament with four games of 30 or more points, including 38 points in the title-game win over Kennedy Catholic. Sank seven 3-pointers in the game.
Baylee Maldonado, Chiawana girls basketball: 4A/3A Mid-Columbia Conference MVP was best player on the floor in 4A district championship showdown against Gonzaga Prep with 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting, and eight rebounds in win.
Parker Mills, West Valley of Yakima boys basketball: Big man, and recent WSU football signee had 34 points and 14 rebounds in the 4A district championship game against Moses Lake, lifting Rams to No. 1 seed.
Braden Santos, Grandview boys basketball: Tallied a game-high 25 points as the Greyhounds handed Selah its first 2A CWAC loss in the District 5 championship game. Scored 23 earlier in the week against Prosser.
Noelani Tupua, Lake Stevens girls basketball: Alabama women’s soccer commit filled it up with a career-high 40 points as the 4A Wesco champions clinch WIAA playoff spot with win over Eastlake. Also went over 1,000 points for career.
Jackson Whitaker, Liberty of Issaquah boys basketball: Under the pressure of a 3A loser-out, winner-to-state game, the senior scored a whopping 43 points in the win over Seattle Prep. Cracked the career 2,000-point mark in the process.
Jazzy Wilkerson, Woodinville girls basketball: Idaho State pledge dropped 23 points, including a 10-of-11 free throw showing, and 11 rebounds as Falcons beat Lake Washington for 4A District 1/2 title. Had 26 points in semifinal win over Redmond.
