Update,: Congratulations to Gig Harbor’s Michael Masini, who was voted as VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for games played Feb. 2-7.
Masini, an Army commit, posted double-double performances against Central Kitsap (41 points, 17 rebounds) and Mount Tahoma (31 points, 14 rebounds) in 3A PSL play.

Original post, Feb. 9: The 10th full week of the high school basketball season in Washington featured big individual playmaking and defensive performances around the state.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week voting for winter-holiday games played the week of Feb. 2-7:
Zia-Daye Anderson, Nathan Hale girls basketball: Boise State signee posted back-to-back 40-point games against 3A Metro League schools — a season-high 45 points (with 11 rebounds and 10 steals) against Cleveland, and 43 points against Chief Sealth.
Caden Andreas, Ridgeline boys basketball: Guard scored a game-high 23 points — 13 in the final quarter — as the Falcons upset Central Valley in a 3A GSL game. In the win, Andreas moved to No. 6 all-time in career league scoring.
Pierce Bierlink, Quincy boys basketball: Smashed his older brother’s program single-game scoring mark by scoring 64 points in an overtime loss to Toppenish. He was 20-of-41 from the floor, including 10 3-pointers to share No. 3 WIAA mark all-time.
Brooke Blachly, Archbishop Murphy girls basketball: Broke her own single-game school record for 3-pointers by canning 11 in a Wesco victory over Mountlake Terrace. Santa Clara signee finished with 39 points.
Zoe Galbreath, Lind-Ritzville-Sprague girls basketball: A week after cracking the 2,000-point plateau for her career, the senior guard poured in a game-high 32 points, including five 3-pointers, in her team’s 2B Northwest win over Newport.
Michael Masini, Gig Harbor boys basketball: Army commit had a pair of big double-double performances in 3A PSL play — 41 points and 17 rebounds against Central Kitsap, and 31 points and 14 rebounds against Mount Tahoma.
Oliver Pepper, Selah boys basketball: Junior guard tallied a season-high 36 points as the Vikings wrapped up a perfect 2A CWAC regular-season with a victory over Ellensburg.
Tyran Stokes, Rainier Beach boys basketball: Nation’s No. 1 senior prospect scored a career-high 63 points (26-of-40 FGs) against West Seattle, breaking the program record of 61, set by Jaylen Petty last season. Also had 51 against Roosevelt.
Chayce Waite-Kellar, Lummi Nation boys basketball: In a matchup for the 1B Northwest championship against Tulalip Heritage, the CWU-bound big man had a 20-20 game in the win for the No. 1 Blackhawks — 25 points and 24 rebounds.
Eli Weeks, Toledo boys basketball: All-state quarterback from football erupted for a career-high 27 points (and teammate Cooper Fallon added 21) as the Riverhawks ended Adna’s 11-game winning streak with a 2B Central win.
