The 11th full week of the high school basketball season in Washington featured big individual playmaking and defensive performances around the state.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Basketball Athlete of the Week voting for winter-holiday games played the week of Feb. 9-14:
Zia-Daye Anderson, Nathan Hale girls basketball: Posted back-to-back 44-point outings, including the final one in a Class 2A district victory over Renton. She sank a season-high eight 3-pointers in the earlier-week performance against Cedarcrest.
Jaxen Appelt, Fort Vancouver boys basketball: Finished with a game-high 31 points on 13-of-16 shooting in team’s Class 1A district victory over Columbia of Hunters. Trappers have won 13 games in a row.
Emma Bryant, Deer Park girls basketball: Senior guard tallied a season-high 32 points, and cracked the 1,000-point plateau for her career, as the Stags handled Rogers of Spokane in a 2A Greater Spokane League game.
Oliviyah Edwards, Lincoln of Tacoma girls basketball: In a do-or-career-is-over road Class 3A district game at Decatur, the Tennessee signee had 36 points, 24 rebounds and three blocked shots in a stay-alive victory.
Lance Horntvedt, Richland boys basketball: Powerful guard got No. 1 Bombers off and rolling in 4A districts with a game-high 36 points on 16-of-29 shooting with nine rebounds and six assists in a win over Ferris.
Edison Kan, Glacier Peak boys basketball: Junior guard tallied a game-high 26 points as the second-ranked Grizzlies capped undefeated run through 4A Wesco with a victory over rival Arlington.
Graycie Kast, Royal girls basketball: Equaled the program single-game scoring record with 39 points in the Knights’ win over Omak in 1A districts. Added 21 points in a state-clinching win over Wapato.
Isai Preciado, Touchet boys basketball: In a dramatic comeback — the RedHawks wiped out a seven-point deficit in the final 20 seconds — it was this junior guard who sank the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to stun Sunnyside Christian.
Aiden Sanchez, Sunnyside boys basketball: Junior scored a game-high 43 points in a 4A CBBN loss to Moses Lake. It was his third 40-point game this winter, including a school-record 49 against Pasco in December.
Tyran Stokes, Rainier Beach boys basketball: Led the Vikings to the 3A Metro League tournament championship with 34 points and 10 rebounds in semifinals against Seattle Prep, and 31 points and 15 rebounds in win over O’Dea in title game.
