The fifth week of the 2026 high school football season in Washington featured big individual performances on offense, defense and special teams.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Football Athlete of the Week voting after Week 5:
Brennan Abbott, Sumner: Completed 16-of-21 passes for a career-high 317 yards and three touchdowns, including two scores to cap 90-plus-yard scoring drives in the first half of his team’s 43-10 victory at Curtis.
Derek Dunham, North Mason: Bulldogs’ skyscraping receiver caught 11 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, and added four tackles for loss and a fumble recovery in a 24-21 win over North Kitsap.
Nolan Grindy, Almira-Coulee-Hartline: Running back of 1B’s top team rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, caught five passes for 150 yards and a score and recorded a pair of interceptions on defense in 82-26 win over Lake Roosevelt.

Josh Mark, Tahoma: It just doesn’t happen very often — being a 100-yard rusher and receiver on the same night. Mark was, rushing for 174 yards and a touchdown, and catching six passes for 104 yards and a score in a 28-21 win over Kentwood.
Marcus Mitrovich, Ridgeline: In just his second start for 3A GSL-leading Falcons, the junior quarterback passed for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and added 63 rushing yards and a pair of scores in a 52-7 win over University.

Maddox Rodgers, Rochester: State’s leading rusher in 11-man football was at it again, rumbling for 234 yards on 21 carries and scoring six touchdowns as the Warriors rushed for 508 yards as a team in a 51-6 win over Hoquiam.
Calen Wuitschick, Selah: Even against a bigger opponent such as West Valley of Spokane, the workhorse running back could not be stopped — 34 carries, 293 yards, three touchdowns — in a 26-21 nonleague victory.
