Second-year Sumner baseball coach Dylan McLaughlin is a scouting fiend. He also heard it many times this week from other coaches and scouts about what his Spartans were facing Friday in the WIAA Class 4A semifinals.

Kamiakin right-hander Zach Vega was a cold-blooded stopper on the mound. No team had come close to solving him, let alone rattle him.

On Friday, Sumner did just that.
