What is Varsity Washington?

Want to know about the best teams in Washington high school football? You can now read about them here.

Want to see some of the best prep highlights on the court? You can watch them here.

And want to hear about what programs have what it takes to win a WIAA championship? You can now tune in here.

Welcome to Varsity Washington — or VarsityWA1 for short — a high school sports newsletter and website devoted to year-round coverage of the teams, athletes and issues pertinent around the state of Washington.

Combined, reporters Todd Milles and Lauren Smith bring nearly 40 years of sportswriting experience — much of it at The News Tribune in Tacoma (while Todd also spent six years at SBLive Washington) — to this new storytelling platform.

What can I expect as a subscriber?

Comprehensive, in-depth and well-researched coverage of high school sports around the state of Washington.

Much of the focus, at least early on, will be on football in the fall; basketball, wrestling and flag football in the winter; and baseball and softball in the spring. We also plan to have a prominent presence at the biggest WIAA championships throughout the year.

We plan to include weekly staples in our coverage that reach every corner of the state, such as single-classification and all-classification rankings, notebook updates, photos, video highlights and analysis from the top games in Washington, and much more.

How much is a paid subscription?

Yearly subscriptions are available for $60, or monthly subscriptions are $6. Purchasing a paid subscription gives readers access to everything posted here on VarsityWA.

Free subscriptions are also an option, and give access to occasional content that is open to all readers, but most posts will be exclusive to paid subscribers.

Subscribing to our YouTube channel — which will feature our weekly podcast, game highlights, interviews and more — is free.

How can I contact you if I have more questions?
