Quarterback Esquire Williams had a big passing performance for Rainier Beach in a 3A Metro League win over Seattle Prep

The fifth week of the high school football season in Washington featured big individual performances on offense, defense and special teams.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Football Athlete of the Week voting after Week 5:
Ansen Asbjornsen, Squalicum: His coach said it was one of the best individual showings in school history — 13 catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns, a 10-yard late TD pass and two interceptions on defense in 24-21 win over No. 1 Anacortes.
Wisdom Bryon, Renton: Senior wide receiver had a career day against Redmond by catching six passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. All three scores were 70 yards or longer as the RedHawks won, 70-21.
Cooper Cissne, Chiawana: Defensive back had a game — 14 1/2 tackles, including seven tackles for loss as the Riverhawks beat Southridge, 36-14, in 4A/3A MCC play. Also had a rushing touchdown.
Parker Fry, White River: Supplied the offense with five receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns, including a 60-yard score. Also returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the Hornets’ 64-7 win over Kentlake.
J’isaiah Mitchell, Puyallup: In a 4A SPSL showdown against reigning state champion Sumner, the Vikings’ firepower was on display. Mitchell had 10 catches for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the 58-22 win.
Ethan Thayer, Onalaska: Running back took over state rushing lead with a game-high 316 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries (all in first half), including scoring gallops of 55 and 58 yards in the Loggers’ 64-12 win over Morton-White Pass.
Grant Wardenaar, Royal: Had an interception on defense to start the second half, then led three touchdown-scoring drives over the final 14 minutes, including the decisive 13-yard TD pass to Dax Jenks in OT in the Knights’ 21-15 win over Cashmere.
Chace Webster, Olympic: The senior running back just keeps piling up yards for the 2A Olympic front-runners. Webster had 257 rushing yards on 26 carries, including four touchdowns in a 40-24 win over King’s. Also had a 44-yard TD reception.
Nathan West, Klahowya: Had 247 total yards, including four receptions for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 28-14 win over East Jefferson. One of those scores was on an 85-yard reception. Also had a sack on defense.
Esquire Williams, Rainier Beach: In 3A Metro showdown with Seattle Prep, the junior threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns (including 90-yarder to Davontae Redding), and had a pair of interceptions on defense in the Vikings’ 35-21 victory.
