Original post, Oct. 27: The eighth week of the high school football season in Washington featured big individual performances on offense, defense and special teams.
Here are 10 standouts up for VarsityWA’s Football Athlete of the Week voting after Week 8:
Ethan Bello, Tumwater: Junior cornerback collected three interceptions and three pass breakups in T-Birds’ 41-20 win over W.F. West for the 2A EvCo championship. Tumwater forced eight turnovers overall.
Owen Boswell, Mountlake Terrace: Led Hawks to a 45-7 win over Edmonds-Woodway with 213 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries. Also had a receiving score (three catches, 30 yards) — and 1 1/2 tackles for loss on defense.
Nolan Enghusen, Mount Rainier: Rallied Rams to a 45-40 win over Auburn in 4A NPSL action, throwing game-winning 75-yard touchdown to Dexter Ballast in final minutes. Passed for career-high 515 yards and added 67 rushing yards.
Brady Jay, Moses Lake: State’s passing leader completed 25-of-35 passes for 423 yards and nine touchdowns — one short of the single-game state record — in a 72-7 win over West Valley of Yakima in 4A CBBN contest.
Titus Kaeka, Steilacoom: Junior quarterback completed 16-of-26 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing score to pace the Sentinels to a 41-31 win over Eatonville in 2A SPSL contest.
Ta’a Malu, Annie Wright: UW defensive line commit added to the Gators’ state-leading safety total (nine) with a tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery — and had three pancake blocks on offense in a 20-0 win over Lynnwood.
Angelo Masciocchi, Issaquah: Eagles senior piled up a season-high 319 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries in a 55-27 win over North Creek in 4A KingCo action.
Zamarie Tellez, Federal Way: Electrifying EWU commit had four offensive touches, and scored three times (two receiving TDs, including a 68-yarder; 51-yard rushing score). Also returned an interception 50 yards for a score in 55-0 win over Kentlake.
Cohen Wood, DeSales: Engineered Irish’s upset of No. 1 Liberty Christian in 1B ranks, rushing for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns and passing for 168 yards and two scores in a 36-28 win in Walla Walla.
Sawyer Woods, Sehome: Senior running back piled up 306 yards and three touchdowns on 42 carries as Mariners picked up a 2A NWC victory over Squalicum, 42-22.
